I am a retired teacher, come mud trudging farmer and I was sick , absolutely sick of the daily grind on the farm.
They talk about global warming but I think they have it all wrong, at least that's how it seems here. We have mud up to our knees, we have been moving all our stock off the farm to save damage to our soil and it is freezing cold. Global warming indeed? We work long hours in all kinds of weather with no guarantees we will make any money.
The cost is huge, every truck load of cattle going off costs around $2000 dollars and every animal costs $6.50 per week for agistment. Do the maths on 700 head of cattle and you will know why I turned to the internet for an income. Then when the ground dries out we have to truck them all home again. There has to be a better way of making money than this I thought. So here I am, working from home at my pc with the fire burning and my hours all my own.
We have just recovered from a 10 year drought and now we have the opposite extreme. During the drought it cost several thousand dollars a week for bought in feed.
